How far from spawn would be considered safe?

I've been playing OG for a few weeks now, every time I build a base I keep getting killed or greifed.
How far from spawn would be considered safe?

Sorry if it is to late but if you go out 20k it will be relatively safe but 30-40k is best spot as it is not to close to spawn and far enough from world boarder which is 50k out also .

Nowhere is completely safe. No matter where you go, you will be found eventually. The best base is built far out, somewhere between 40k and 50k blocks away underground (preferably down to bedrock so x ray ppl can't see you unless they dig down). The server does not allow you to go past 51k blocks and people tend to travel along the world border, so you want to build a few thousand blocks under 50k.
